After a long day yesterday, ending in an intense game of soccer with everyone, it was nice to get a chance to get away from the business of the church and have a leadership conference for the adults and teenagers. Alex started the meeting with informing the church that the vision for the next few years is to create a trade school for the youth when they get too old for the program at the church. This made me really excited because for teenagers my age who live in Honduras, they often don’t have the experience to get a good job and get their life running on a good foot. The trade school will help kids be able to learn life skills needed to start a successful life which will affect generations to come. After that exciting news Shane talked about the importance of mentorship and who and how to mentor.
Once we finished the meeting, I was met by kids how couldn’t wait for me to get in the water and play. Probably to most common word I’ve heard here in Honduras is “jugar,” which in English means “to play”. We went in the ocean which was the temperature of the air if not warmer! We played keep away with one of the balls the boys brought, and I probably got a lot more salt water in my mouth and eyes then I should’ve. I was so glad to have to whole team out in the ocean even with Cassie’s fear of water and Shane’s fear of sharks. It was fun to see people’s talents coming out just by having them go swimming. I saw Cassie and Jen care for and be with other girls who were also scared, Billie having fun playing with the boys, and Tonya teaching the girls how to swim with Keith interpreting. It was a lovely day filled with learning, laughs, and good food just like everyday in Honduras.
Enjoying every days update! Looks like a wonderful and productive time being had by you all! Looking forward to all of the continued blessings to follow the team and friends in Honduras. Love you all!
