Our time in Guatemala comes to a bittersweet end – but we all are truly “joyfully exhausted”. It has been a blessing to be able to see familiar faces, meet new friends, and now share memories to last a lifetime. Our team was talking tonight about just how beautiful heaven will be, and I imagine it would be exactly like outreach. You could just hear and see the joy on all the faces at the clinic today, and the love of Christ didn’t seem to have any boundaries. It was so fulfilling to be able to touch the lives of the people who live here, even just to give them the little we have to offer and let God do the rest. I am personally so excited to come again next year and see what more God can do!

As the team heads back home today, I am reflecting on the past week and what God had in store. I am reminded of the story of Gideon. God appeared to him and said, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor. You shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites.” Gideon must have thought, “Don’t you know how weak and scared I am.” That is how I felt when 48 hours before this trip, I found out that I would be leading this team in place of our designated team leader who had gotten sick and without our medical director who had also gotten sick. I was shaking in my boots, saying, “Are you sure it is me, God?”
Just a week prior to that, our team had been shrunk down to almost half the size due to outside circumstances, and it was hard to see what God was doing in all of this. But then, I recalled the story of Gideon again and how God took his army of 32,000 and said it is too many, and overnight 20,000 had fled. But God said, it is still too many, so he whittled down the army to a group of 300. Why would he do this? I believe it was so that there would be NO question that it would be God who would defeat the Midianites.
In much the same way, I feel that God kept reducing this team to the point so that we all knew ONLY God could make this all come together. He took a small group of willing participants, who answered his call and came together to fulfill his purpose. I have no doubt after having worked with this team and the clinic throughout the week that He pre-chose this team, for this time, and for his reason, all for His glory!
