The day began with worship services at the Church of Nueva Vida with Pastor Josie. We were taught through music and word. What an incredible experience it was to be surrounded by the people of Guatemala. We were taught to be doers of the word of Christ in taking upon his name and spreading the word of God. Pastor Josie encouraged us all to find ways to lift the souls of those around us. The Spirit of God was so strong. God loves the people of Guatemala and has blessed them with such faith. I am in awe of these beautiful people. I did not understand a lot of the words due to the language barrier but that didn’t matter because the Spirit taught each of us and we all felt the truth of every word.

Following church services we were able to travel to Santa Maria De Jesus to visit Brennan’s Ministry, Cosechando Felicidad. Brennan has created a safe haven for the elderly in her town. We were able to visit the home where she provides meals, companionship and love for those in her community in need. What an amazing experience it was to walk through the streets being led by Brennan and those she works with in sharing their culture. The town is filled with murals painted on the walls. You can feel the stories they are longing to share with the world as you gaze upon the pictures before you. They tell the story and beliefs of the Guatemalan people of this area. We were able to walk through the markets as our eyes took in the culture, clothing and simple lives of these remarkable people. Just don’t get too comfortable walking around because you may get run over by a Tuk Tuk (hehe). But don’t worry we all walked away unscathed with only a few close calls (wink wink).

A few of us were able to stay behind with Brennan and take part in a visit with her patrons. Anna did her magic bringing the blessing of sight to some of the people of Brennan’s ministry. To watch their eyes light up as the were able to see more clearly will be imbedded in my mind forever. There were about 9 patrons in all that were laughing, smiling and enjoying one another’s company. As each shuffled out of the home one at a time they left behind hugs, waves and expressions of eternal gratitude for the glasses and blessings Brennan brings to them daily. Words cannot describe or even begin to depict the impact this ministry is having on those in Brennan’s community. God’s love is being showered upon them daily. My only prayer is that we can all reflect on our own lives and find a way to share God’s love in our own ways. Let us be a gift to others as Brennan has and continues to be a gift to those in her ministry. Let us find our own path in creating a safe haven for those in the storms of life. May we “Always Choose Compassion!”
